Print QR codes that last for years

A sticker in the meter cabinet has a tough life: heat, moisture, dust. Here's how to make a QR that stays scannable - with or without your own printer.

Three ways to print

Recommended

Label printer

A Brother QL or Zebra label printer with a vinyl label roll. Print on demand per property, scratch-resistant right away.

  • No trimming
  • Waterproof vinyl
  • Ideal for individual stickers

Laser + vinyl

A regular laser printer on self-adhesive A4 vinyl sheets. Waterproof and scratch-resistant without extra laminate.

  • Several per sheet
  • Cut to size yourself
  • Low cost per sticker

Inkjet + laminate

Only have an inkjet? Print on vinyl and always laminate - inkjet ink bleeds when exposed to moisture.

  • Always laminate
  • Or a protective sleeve
  • Never without a layer

Size & material03 / 03

The four rules of a scannable sticker

Quiet zone
4 - 5 cm

Size 4 - 5 cm

At least 3 x 3 cm. Bigger scans faster, even in low light.

Quiet zone

Keep a white margin around the code - never print to the edge.

Matte, not glossy

Glossy material causes reflections and failed scans.

High contrast

A dark code on a white background. No colour on colour.

Test every sticker before you stick it

Scan every sticker once with your phone before sticking it down for good. That way you catch a smudge, wrong size or damage before handover - not after.

No printer? No problem
